Ever since the closure of Doctors Medical Center (formerly Brookside Hospital) in 2015, West County has turned into a dangerous emergency room desert. With only a small Kaiser emergency room in Richmond providing care to over 300,000 residents between the Oakland/Berkeley border and Vallejo, and the impending closure of Alta Bates by 2030, Richmond patients in critical condition will have no choice but to endure long waits or be diverted to distant facilities, risking their lives.
When it comes to surviving a heart attack, a stroke, an act of violence, or an earthquake, immediate access to emergency care can mean the difference between life and death. An emergency room in Richmond that can provide around the clock care and the specialized staff and equipment needed to treat life threatening conditions is critical to addressing the lack of emergency care options in our community and save lives.
Emergency Room Richmond is a coalition of Richmond residents, community leaders, health-care advocates, police officers and firefighters working to find creative solutions to the lack of emergency care services in Richmond and West County.Click here to contact us.
